As you have probably noticed I am having Blog issues again. I can't access past posts to make corrections. I have notified Blogger.
It is sprinkling very lightly this morning.
I mowed yesterday morning and DH picked up a garden trailer full of weeds I had tossed here and there.
I didn't get around to trimming but I did water the garden and the shrub border in the front yard. I very carefully sprayed again for beetles.
I took a rest after lunch and then made hamburger buns and an angel food cake. We are having MIL out for burgers and maybe an outdoor picnic using the new table......if it doesn't get too hot.
I used my old recipe for cheesy onion burger buns, but left out the onion. I would like to leave out the cheese too but need to figure how to make that work. This time I knew how many buns to make so they all turned out a good size. The recipe used 6 cups of flour and called for 20 buns. I weighed them and they were around 2.6 yo 2.7 oz. each.
Normally, I don't ice angel food cake for us but MIL has a sweet tooth and loves coconut so I will toast some coconut and sprinkle it over a 7-minute type frosting.
I am boiling potatoes and eggs now for a potato salad. I should have done that yesterday too but didn't. I have both in ice water now.
I just have volunteer cucumbers so I don't get over 1-3 at a picking. I had a few on hand and decided to use Kris's refrigerator recipe. You can find it here http://melissa-majora7.blogspot.com/search/label/refrigerator%20pickles. I made 2 pints and maybe a cup over. I have already 'sampled' about a half cup of them. The only change is maybe I would add a little more salt (to taste). I didn't change a thing with her recipe. I love the bite they have.
The sprinkle is still coming down! (I sprayed and watered....that always helps).

I forgot to say that I do not use a bun pan. I think Denim asked me that once and I just thought of it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Glenda. I wasn't sure if you did or not. Yours look so perfect.
DeleteHave a wonderful week and don't get too hot. Its pretty hot here now and no rain.
Hugs
Glad you like the pickles, Glenda. Right now my cuke vines are only now starting to put out tendrils. I won't be seeing any cukes for at least 3 weeks, maybe longer. I have to baby those plants since there is no rain this year to speak of.
ReplyDeleteOoooh, I love toasted coconut too! Yum.
We got a little 1/4 inch shower yesterday morning. Ever little bit helps.
DeleteToday is to be in the 90's.
We liked the toasted coconut on the icing; never done it that way before.
Everything looks delish, as always!
ReplyDeleteSorry about the blog issues. Just so you know, WordPress has problems now and then, too. When I look at my stats, sometimes it won't load the daily chart. And I still haven't figured out how to put a list of followers on. There aren't many, so guess that's not an issue. But mostly I'd like to see when any of the blogs I have listed on my blogroll have new posts. Guess I'm going to have to go to each individual blog I like to go to and set it up so I get the new post in an e-mail.
I'm getting a few decent tomatoes now, but still some with BER. I cut off the good parts and put in the freezer. The bad parts go out to the chickens. They really get excited over that!
I am very far from a tomato here....just tiny ones about the size of a plum. I think I killed all the volunteer early cherry tomatoes with the spray.
DeleteDH says our chickens (he feeds them) go crazy for stale bread more than anything.
Glenda, The hamburger buns, potato salad and angel food cake sounds and looks good. We'll all be over for dinner today, lol
ReplyDeleteHave a great Sunday!
Sandy, you would be welcome! There is just one slice of cake left....course I sent home about a fourth with MIL.
DeleteYou always seem to make just what I'm craving!!! Sorry you are having Blogger problems, it was acting wonky at my house the other day and I just turned it off. Later on, it was ok again. It's all magic you know!!! Happy Father's Day to your better half...
ReplyDeleteBetter Half got phone calls from our daughter an son and his mother was here so he had a perfect day.
DeleteI have a recipe for Cheesy-Onion Burger Buns, too! I've been wanting to make a batch to have on hand in the freezer for a couple of weeks now. Must find time to do it. Yours look purdier than mine ever do!
ReplyDeleteI have never made an angel food cake in my life. Do I need to turn in my Betty Crocker button??
Keep that button! I made one for the first time about 50 years ago and it fell flat and didn't try again until we had all those 'free' eggs. I finally got up my courage when an internet friend sent me her recipe. My Iowa sis is still having problems from her one attempt. I think she used regular flour....a real no no!
DeleteI try to keep burger buns in the freezer all the time.
Glenda, do you have sit still and do nothing? That angel food cake looks so scrumptious...it's one of my favorites...in fact, sometimes I add cocoa and decaf coffee to get a mocha flavored one!...:)JP
ReplyDeleteJP, I sit more than I work....from noon on sometimes I am reading in my nest in the kitchen. Kindle has been the ruination of me.
