Rain has Arrived

We are finally getting rain. 1 inch so far and a lot more promised for tomorrow if we aren't too far north to catch it. Springfield is supposed to get 4 inches. Today is cold, very windy and a good day to be inside (poor DH). I will be making chili.

I took pictures from the back stoop.....that is as far as I would venture.

I was worried the red maple wasn't going to color, but it did.

I zoomed a little too much here but you can see the wind and Willow and son in the far distance. That was after milking. She gave us 2 gallons which was very good after a cold and rainy night.

More wind in the oak outside the living room

The previous week was spent doing some extra cleaning.  Our daughter and granddaughter came down for a tour of Drury University on Friday.  I doubt she will choose it but needed to see a small school for comparison.  Both of our offspring are MU alumni but with their recent troubles there are no firm plans for her to attend their alma mater.  Sad, sad goings on.  Hopefully things will get straightened up.  She has lots more visits to make.

I had promised to make our GD twice baked potatoes and barbecued ribs and knew I  wouldn't be able to squeeze that in over Thanksgiving so that was our Friday evening dinner.  I was worried about the ribs but they turned out great cooked in the oven with a rub, long and low heat.  Brushed on sauce at the last.  We got a kick our of our daughter.  She drank three glasses  of Willow milk at one setting.  That was a first!  Our kids were raised on home-grown milk and they still love it.

  4. Looking at the radar this morning, you're getting your share of all that rain. It's heading our way this evening/night. Glad I got all the outside stuff done (even cleaned out the car - it was like a compost pile of its own LOL). Temps still mild today/tomorrow then brrrr! Glad your blaze maple lit up for you. I still miss mine.

    1. Kris, we got 5.25 inches in less than 24 hours. We are soggy now. Not complaining.

The maple is outstanding this year even though the middle top 8 feet is gone!

  5. Oh, I loved seeing your deciduous trees and all the leaves on the ground. That's one thing I miss from growing up in Illinois . . . those beautiful trees.

We've had too much rain. Our small pond is running over in spots that have never seen water at that level before. On the other hand, our weather is still unseasonably warm for the middle of November. Can't count on anything weather-wise any more, it seems!

You obviously are a safe, warm, secure haven for your kids and family to come home to. Fresh, raw milk and all!

    1. I they view us that way! Don't you have any deciduous trees? We ended up with 5.25 inches. The ground is soggy but we are not complaining. Down in the 20's next week! It is time.

  6. Glenda,

Beautiful new header, I like it.
I'm enjoying your pictures of your tree's and the change colors of the leaves. Most of our tree's have lost their leaves, and I haven't really had a chance to enjoy the change when it happened. Things are finally coming together down at the estate in TX. We finally had the estate sale, sold pretty much everything. A bit more maintenance to accomplish, probate court next week, then the house will be up on the market.
