I won't be blogging for a while.
Our two grands that were visiting were involved in a very serious wreck this side of St. Roberts. Courtney was not injured but our Ryan received a severe blow to his lower abdomen (seat belt injury) and was taken to the Rolla, Mo. hospital. They thought he was ok but the next morning at home he started bleeding (in the stool) and only quick thinking by our 17 year old granddaughter saved his life. She immediately called the ambulance and he was rushed to St. John's and straight into surgery for a ruptured intestine. He has been in intensive care ever since. They have set up a website so we can track his progress. It has been a blessing. I feel like I know every little thing which helps. He is all that is on my mind. They think he is recovering well but it will be a slow process. We won't really feel safe until 10 days from the surgery have passed. Infection is the real worry now.
I will link the website

Lots of prayers for that little guy coming from me. Also, praying for your family to get through this. It is so hard to see those little ones in pain.
ReplyDeletePraying for your grandson and for you and your family!

Thank you all for your response. It means a great deal to me.
ReplyDeleteRyan is making good progress and the doctors say he is on the right path to recovery. They did caution to take it one day at a time since as we have learned the hard way things can take a bad turn very quickly.
He will not return to baseball or start football this fall. He can resume swimming, but not competitively, in about three months if all goes well. He is quite an athlete.
The fact that he is such an athlete is another thing in his favor. His body is in better shape than some other kids his age. By having been so physically active, all of his bodily systems and functions are in great shape. Hugs to you and the rest of the family.
DeleteGlenda, I see when I log onto Caring Bridge that Ryan is making progress. Praying for a quick recovery, he's young and healthy and that is on his side! Thank God for his sister's quick actions and for the good care he's receiving at St. Johns.
ReplyDeleteGlenda, I am so sorry to hear this! Of course Ryan, you, and your family will be in my prayers. XOXOXOXO
ReplyDeleteThank you Ilene. He has recovered so quickly that we are blessed. He goes home today.
DeleteGlenda, I'm sorry to hear that. I'll keep the prayers going up from here.
ReplyDeleteThank you Diane. He will be going home today. Doctors say it will be three months before he can exercise much.
DeleteI see Ryan is going home tomorrow! He's made an amazing recovery in a short time. I hope he will mind the doctors and not overdo. I bet his parents are worn out being under so much stress and staying there with him. Is it your son that posted the updates? He did an excellent job, be sure and tell him!
ReplyDeleteI think Steve signs most of his posts; Robin is his wife.
ReplyDeleteRyan wasn't too happy with the website....but I was so grateful for the updates without having to chase the kids down. I have told them both how I appreciated the detailed updates. Both are engineers so I wasn't surprised at all.
Oh, I'm so happy to read just now that Ryan is HOME! I'm sure that will make a big difference for his continued recovery. I'm so glad he's healing well. I hope you and DH are doing fine, too. You've been pretty stressed. Hope you can relax a little bit now. *hugs*
