3 AM, 21° This is my favorite time of the day.....very quiet, reading a good book, coffee made (DH sets it up for me at night).....no phones or knocks on the door.....love it!
Yesterday was pretty much a do nothing day (again). I did run the vacuum in most of the house and all decorations our stored away for next year.
I made a beef stir fry for lunch, couldn't call it pepper steak because I was too lazy to walk to the outside freezer to get my peppers. Instead I used onions, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and a few slices of squash from a bag of frozen mixed veggies. I added to bit of tumeric to the rice. We enjoyed it a lot.
The chickens have really been taking a break.....a couple of days we got nothing and then yesterday only 2.
I have been buying some really nice very dark brown eggs from the local market for $2. They aren't too bad.
We got two of my least favorite things in the mail yesterday: Personal Property Tax for 2013 (to be filled out) and the ag census forms that are many pages long....most don't pertain to our small farm but you still have to read each thing. The eyes of the government are on us........always.
Someone asked about how many cats we have......at last count maybe 14? I know, I know.........
I keep trying to get a picture of them following DH around when he first goes outside....I call him the Cat Whisperer. I could call him the animal whisperer but he does not like or mess with horses!
I hope to finally get the strawberries mulched this afternoon. (later) I am happy to report I did get the strawberries mulched:
You can see I did not get the garden tilled....had a tiller issue that is still not resolved.
I also pulled off some Trail of Tears bean pods for seed.

Yes, I got my taxes in the mail a week or so before Christmas. The county thinks that must be a great present for you.
ReplyDeleteI am hearing grumbling from everyone, including country folk about ag census. We also are having issues as far as county about water and the purchase of a huge tract of land for the sole purpose of pumping out of the aquafir and putting the water back into several rivers to make up for water? You figure that out....there is a battle brewing about this as it will end up with all the county tax payers coming up with money that all of us cannot afford. Should be interesting.
Don't count the cats, just enjoy. ;@)
Have a wonderful weekend.
Hugs
Isn't it just amazing what projects the government can come up with!
DeleteI have given up on the cat control....we don't have any rats or mice int he outbuildings though!
You have a good weekend too.
Taxes, the bane of any society.
ReplyDelete14 felines in your family!! I would love to see a photo of them all following your husband. I think that is neat.
Your steak lunch looks delicious. I think I'll have tilapia fish for supper tonight over some rice, or maybe I'll just heat up the rest of the black eye pea soup, yea, I think that's what I'll do. I'll have the fish tomorrow night.
Love and hugs to you ~ FlowerLady Lorraine
I wish I would try to eat fish.....I just can't abide the smell...I know it shouldn't smell bad, but to me it does. I have turkey vegetable soup thawing for our lunch today.
DeleteHave a good weekend.
Cat Whisperer! We NEED to see a picture of that!
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your blog because #1: I used to live in MO, so it's sort of like going back for a visit for the mild winters. #2: You are so down to earth in your writings. #3: It is just so peaceful, informative, and interesting @ Country Living in the Ozarks!
ReplyDeleteJoy, I just added your blog to my list. Yes, you need to get over feeling guilty about reading fiction! I have read all of Rosamund Pilcher's books; I had forgotten about her.
DeleteWe are wondering what kind of a winter we will be having this year...I heard the weatherman talk about some cold coming....we will see.
Glenda - I loved Rosamund Pilcher's books. Have you read any Barbara Taylor Bradford (especially "A Woman of Substance"). Her stuff is terrific.
DeleteGlenda,
ReplyDeleteThank you for answering my question, 14 cats wow......I bet they keep those little furry, 4 legged critters away from the barn and house. How much do they charge for their services, lol..... Are they available for services? I think it's great to have cats. You call your husband the Cat Whisperer, I would love to see pictures of him with the cats.
Your stir fry looks amazing.
I am still trying to catch them following him. He feeds them so whenever they see him they line up; sometimes even going to the mailbox and back until he finally gets back to the feed room.
DeleteWe got our tax forms in the mail today, too. They don't waste any time, do they? :)
ReplyDeleteYour stir-fry looks tasty!
14 cats...well, at least they are all outside. My 4 inside sometimes feels like 14. LOL!
Have a good weekend.
Cheryl, the scary thing is several of these cats are not neutered...I don't know if we could catch them or not.....
DeleteYeah, got my taxes before Christmas. Also the insurance bill for our house. Yipe. I wonder how much longer it's going to be before home insurance prices itself right out of the market. They don't seem to be paying very well for those folks along the east coast. Makes one wonder if insurance is worth having.
ReplyDeleteIt's one of those things you are afraid not to have! It never pays what you think it should; there are always those little loop holes to give them an out.
