I am happy to report the project went well yesterday.
Here he is just stepping down from the step stool telling me don't take my picture.......
I have to admit I can't see the difference but they do 'feel' clean and I know they are now. I did the curtains and windows and the ceiling fan.
I also did the old fashioned floor mopping (down on your knees) but just around the cabinets; I will finish that today.
Here is the view out my sink window without the curtain and looking through a clean glass for a change.
I was tired by lunch so I found some frozen chicken and noodles and had a salad with craisins and toasted almonds. I made a simple vinaigrette using sunflower seed oil. I had laid out a sirloin steak earlier but didn't want the mess so put it in the fridge and will have it today. We toasted the last hamburger bun to have with the meal. No dessert.
Speaking of lettuce, usually I don't like buying it out of season but last week when we had company coming and I was trying out the new Walmart Neighborhood Market I spied this product. It was $2.50 and didn't look like much for that price. I had never bought lettuce in this kind of a container before and gave it a try. I am sold. There are 4 individual little bunches of a gourmet type lettuce and they keep remarkably well. I bought them October 21 and the remaining lettuce is perfectly good, only the 'stump' end that you cut away is browning. Each little head makes us two salads. I think it is a good buy and will stop just for it when we visit the MIL. I don't know if the regular WM carries it or not but will check.

If you have an ALDI's, they have that same lettuce. sorry I don't remember what I paid for it.
ReplyDeleteWe have an Aldi's but it is out of the way and I never seem to think of it.
DeleteI buy mine at Aldi too, they do keep longer than the artisan lettuce that's loose. I hate to waste anything, esp. when it's pricey like these so have to pat attention and use it up. Your kitchen is now clean as a whistle... until you cook! I cleaned out my clothes closet yesterday, at least I started the job. I have to make myself throw out things, even if they are worn out!
ReplyDeleteI cooked the steak for lunch.....now I have a mess again. I told Max that was the only thing about cooking I hated.....making a mess and having to clean it up every time.
DeleteI've had those artisan lettuces too. Pricey - but tasty, nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteWe're into our 6th straight day of rain here. Over 5" so far. Should stop today... New cider post, today. I'm really enjoying this project. In fact, I enjoy most ANYthing that doesn't include housecleaning. LOL Glad you got the cupboards ship shape and Bristol fashion. Enjoy.
I have to enjoy it quickly because it won't last long.....I know me too well.
DeleteI set my jug of cider on the counter top this morning to let it finish doing whatever it is going to do.
Why is it that whenever you clean some part of the house, it just feels so much better even though it doesn't really look much different? I swear the room must emit some kind of "clean" aura that you don't get when it's dusty and dirty!
ReplyDeleteWow! Look at that clean kitchen! My kitchen cabinets need cleaning out and the outside wiped down. I still can't figure out how dust gets in behind closed doors so easily.
ReplyDeleteYour meal looks good. I toast buns, too. It's a good way to use the odd one or two left in the sack.
I love salad even tho the price of good lettuce is high. I'll have to look for this one. Thanks for the tip.
You are right about using the odd bun up....I had one left and hated to just toss it to the chickens.
DeleteSince I have used up all of my lettuce from my garden a while ago, I pick up this lettuce when possible. It's a great lettuce.
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen looks amazing, want to trade?
I also just wanted to drop you a note, I love the Oatmeal Bread. I made it and the loaf just disappeared. In the next day or so, I will post about the bread.
Sandy, I am so glad you tried the bread and liked it.
ReplyDeleteI just love your kitchen. They do get messy easily, though.
ReplyDeleteI made two batches of Feather Beds (my potato bread recipe) and tried your tip of putting the dough in loaf pans. You're right, they make wonderful soft bread that will be nice for sandwiches. I even used half whole wheat flour. Maybe this is my ticket to getting Hubs off store-bought bread. He buys it at the bread outlet store. I asked him what it costs now and he said he gets five one-and-one-half-pound loaves for almost $7. That seems high to me.
I still haven't tried the oatmeal bread but I plan to. Been in a bit of a funk lately and then there has been Hubs to see after. He's about back to his normal self except that he will have special dietary needs till his mouth is healed. Hugs, Ilene
I still need your secret about forming the dough into buns...hot dog and hamburger. I am not happy with mine.
DeleteI hate making the white bread instead of whole wheat but Max prefers it so I figure that mine is still healthier because of no preservatives and I used the best flour I can buy.
Sorry about the funk. I know what that is like. Glad to hear hubs is doing so well. Think puddings, soups, shakes, etc.
I came to visit you from At The Farm - it's time for me to clean cabinets now too so I was glad for the reminder. I'm in Jefferson City visiting my sister. Her husband lost his sight suddenly a month ago so we're cleaning and purging her house to make it easier for him to navigate. She says if she'd known she was going to have to do this instead of her children doing it after she died she wouldn't have collected so much stuff. :) I live in Arkansas but do love Missouri! blessings, marlene
ReplyDeleteMy sister and I have laughed at what our kids will have to go through when we die.....my daughter is fanatical about getting rid of things she doesn't use....she will be in deep shock.
DeleteSorry to hear about your BIL. You are a good sis to be helping with the cleaning.
Every time we drive into northern Arkansas, we always say we could live there too. If we go north.....not so much. We do love the Ozarks!
I Glenda,
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh when I read that your husband told you not to take his photo. I have some photos of Larry with the grandsons where he is giving me a scowl because I'm taking pictures again.
I need to get more cleaning and decluttering done. I did sweep and scrub my kitchen floor Saturday, but you can't tell today.
I've gotten some lettuce like that, but lately, have been getting leaf lettuce blends, and actually forgot about those. I'll have to look out for that kind.
