Peppers and Sweet Potatoes

Since last post, we have had rain.....just slightly over1/2 inch but it was wonderful!  We also got severe lightening which was not so wonderful.

It fried my router and did some kind of Directv damage to just the living room set.  After spending the miserable hour with a flashlight and following their netpicking directions trying to correct the problems, to no avail,I might add we are having a service person out this morning.........our cost, of course.  When Christmas rolls around I hope DH can guide his mother in another direction!

I was off the internet from Sunday until yesterday evening.  New router programmed and hooked up now so all is working.

Weather is slightly cooler but supposed to be back to 100° today so we will be checking the water situation.

Food

Flowerlady mentioning pizza sent me over the edge.  I  had been wanting one but didn't want the oven on.....I gave in and just shut up the kitchen and open the window above the range to vent.  It was worth the hot oven and I have one in the freezer now.  My recipe for crust is for 2.

I made pepperoni this time.

Garden

I had DH go to the garden with me to hold back the plants so I could show my peppers.  It is the only bragging rights I have now.

These, I think, are the Serranos,

and the one California Wonder Bell Pepper,

The rest are the cheese peppers, yellow, red and green,

and this is the sweet potato row.....hope it is not all foliage!

Garden plans today are to check for moisture and beetles.  The rain washed off the spray and the beetles are opportunists......

  1. Well, talk about your bumper crop of peppers! Well done! At least SOMEthing, SOMEwhere are flourishing! And what a sea of sweet potato vines. Say, I'm growing some for the first time this year. How do I know when to dig them up?

    1. Kris, most varieties need at least 100 days from planting to be mature. They can stay in the ground until a frost is threatened....dig before that.

  2. Our peppers are doing well this year too; guess they like the heat. Cheese peppers? I love the name and they even look cute ;)

What beetles you having problems with? I had flea beetles on my eggplants this year but I think the heat finally cooked them (or they had their fill). I only had Japanese beetles one year and they didn't seem to do much damage to the garden, but I did notice that they DID lay their eggs in the garden because this spring whenever I dug something, out came a beetle larva.

    1. We had a temporary influx of striped blister beetles but they seemed to just be here a few days. I have checked since the little rain and am not finding anything so no spraying!

  3. That is about all I have to brag about too, Glenda, peppers and cukes.
I am trying to get the kitchen ready to can. D put the small air conditioner in my south window to help cool the kitchen down. It works just great and with fans running, its going to be wonderful to can now.
We have had a few thunderstorms, with nasty lightening, and a piddle of rain. Lots of grassfires also. We even had several houses in town struck by lightening and burned. Not fun.
Its been hot here, 100+ each day. The mornings are getting somewhat cooler, so you can go out and have coffee on the patio and not melt.
    Have a wonderful week.
    Hugs

  4. Your garden looks wonderful. I'll bet it takes a lot of watering, considering the dry summer everybody has been having.

  6. What a little will do for a garden! You are blessed with the peppers and I bet you'll have a bumper crop of sweet potatoes too. We got 3/10 of an inch yesterday, that on top of last week's inch sure was appreciated! Glenda, is it ok if I share a link on my Facebook Granny Mountain recipe group when you post a recipe? It's only invited members (mostly from the blog) so isn't public. You have so many great recipes!
