It didn't last long and was gone by evening. It was pretty while it lasted but we were not sorry to see it go.
Not much has been happening. I did hear that our son and his family will join us for Thanksgiving. This will be the first time in a long time we have all been together. Something to be Thankful for!
Of course, I now have to add a cream pie to the dessert list....that is our son's favorite. I made a cheese cake for our daughter and a flan for our SIL. Then we have to have the traditional pecan and pumpkin ( my home grown) pie. There will be lots of left over desserts.
We had an interesting meal yesterday. We had venison roast! I was dreading even cooking it but did it in the crock pot with onion soup mix and it was delicious! A young neighbor who hunts on the farm finally got a deer with his bow and brought us two roasts and a package of summer sausage.
Well, you've had more snow than we have this year! How's that for making things kitty-wampus? My brother and his family in Illinois had a foot of the white stuff last week, but here in northern Minnesota . . . no covering yet. Just lazy flakes coming down now and then.
ReplyDeleteWe had venison for dinner yesterday, too! I made ours into Beef Stroganoff. Cooked by a good cook with a good recipe and I don't think you can tell it from beef. (Unfortunately, that wasn't the case in our house last night . . . long story!) :o)

ReplyDeleteOh how I envy you your venison! I would PAY to have someone come and shoot the d^mn deer in my yard. I'd eat them in a minute! I've had venison and like it very much. No snow here, and only 1/10" from that huge weather front that dumped over 5" down your way. Cold and dry and mostly sunny. So glad you will have a nice houseful for Thanksgiving. So many desserts! I felt my chol levels going up just reading the list. Have a nice holiday. :-D
ReplyDeleteVenison, how blessed to have been given some. Your dinner looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteYour first snow looked pretty.
Happy baking, visiting and eating ~ FlowerLady
It was 16 here but no snow.
ReplyDeleteVenison is a blessing to many who can afford to buy meat and to those who also love it. I think you may look forward to the next mess too.
Hope your Thanksgiving Dinner and Family Fellowship went well. We enjoyed ours. Two of the great grands were with their father, so their mother brought two other children whose custodial father, a fireman, had to work. Extended family has new meaning these days.
ReplyDeleteIndeed it does! We enjoyed a very Happy Thanksgiving. Having both children here was a blessing. We also enjoyed having our SIL's niece. This was her first Thanksgiving Dinner ever. We tend to forget it is an not a holiday for everyone.
ReplyDeleteWe had some venison recently, too! Our good neighbor, Joe, got a deer and brought us enough tenderloin for a meal. He said to marinate it in Italian salad dressing before cooking and I did that. It was still a little tough, but had good flavor. If he brings over more I think I'll cook it in the slow cooker, and I'll try the onion soup mix. Hubs' mother used to grind any venison that she got and mix it half and half with hamburger, then make it into patties or meat loaf. And a friend I used to work with grinds hers and makes chili with it. I've had that, and it's very good.
ReplyDeleteI would use the crock pot again. No attention at all and very, very tender. I just used a portion of the mix since the roast was so small.
ReplyDeleteMarinating would be good but I have never found that it tenderized beef significantly.
Thanks for coming by to visit.
ReplyDeleteBlessings.
