They came a couple of days ago;The first one came during the snowy day and the poor thing was so hunched up I though it would not make it through the night. I put out grape jelly and an orange slice and it began eating immediately.
This was taken through the screen; I have removed it now.
I now have maybe three, an adult male, a female and a third that may be a juvenile or another female. I wish they stayed with us all summer but they head north pretty quickly.

Those are such sweet birds. I remember drawing and coloring one of these when I was a girl.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week ~ FlowerLady
They have such color contrasts I can see why they would make good coloring subjects.
DeleteYou have a good week too. I think our weather is going to be good for working outside for a change.
They are beautiful birds! So colorful and cheery!
ReplyDeleteThey are the most colorful birds we have here....maybe our state bird, the red-breasted bluebird, can compete but it isn't this bright.
DeleteOMG, I had to look twice, they are so cold and puffed up, I at first thought they were robins. I have my Oriole feeder out in anticipation of when they first arrive here!!!
ReplyDeleteI was worried about the little thing freezing overnight but he didn't. I think they prefer the jelly to the oranges.
DeleteI love the beautiful orioles. You got some fantastic shots!
ReplyDeleteThank you Cheryl.
DeleteOh how beautiful! I seldom see them here. I did see a male rose-breasted grosbeak a couple days ago. What a looker he was.
ReplyDeleteWe had a rose breasted grosbeak a few years ago but he didn't stay long. He was a beauty.
DeleteThey are truly gorgeous birds. Up here in northern MN we have seen a couple over the years but they certainly aren't regulars in our area. Great pics you got. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed them. They have such gorgeous colors that they photograph well.
DeleteI don't think I've ever seen one, either but remember the coloring pages with orioles.
ReplyDeleteWe have towhees with similar coloring. They like to scratch around on the ground under shrubbery and they enjoy the birdbath that is near the ground. I never get close enough for photos, yours are great!
Thanks. I have never seen a towhee. I see the birds are now scratching under the feeder for dropped seed. I need to refill the seeder to bring in the songbirds.
DeleteGlenda,
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures, I love them. You could send these picture to bird magazines and they would more than likely want to use them.
DeleteSometimes the pictures turn out; sometimes they don't. I took these sitting at my desk. The feeder is on the porch. Glad you liked them.
Oh, I love seeing Orioles. They don't stay around our area very long either. I wonder where the do stay? Baltimore??? ;) I love hearing their song. Your last photo is perfect!
ReplyDeleteMy Sis lives near Adel, Iowa and they build nests there. She told me hers arrived about 4 days after mine did. I have never heard their song but listened online to it. Ours seem skittish around people; not like the hummers.
