4 AM , the sleet/rain mixture has just started. 8:32 AM, we now have about 1/2 inch of that lovely mix on most things. I have just seen one vehicle go by so far and no salt trucks at all.
We are getting periods of drizzle that is freezing. I think by Sunday it should all be melted once again.
I am now a shut in person so I resort to cooking......
I made the wonderful Pecan Sandies that I first saw on Ilene's blog. It may still be in the Better Homes and Gardens cookbook, I haven't checked. I love shortbread and that is what these are really except you don't have to roll out and then cut....they don't make a large amount but that is OK. I can make something different sooner and I am going to. My Iowa Sis sent me a recipe she got from Williams Sonoma that she says is very good. I might even make them today.
Yep, ice started here around 3 am. Stopped for a bit but now it's back. Made a run to check on the critters between ice pellets and all seems ok. Weird to hear thunder when it's "snowing" outside.
ReplyDeleteWe've been baking & will continue to do so until the power goes off! Not that I want it to, just preparing myself :)
Hunker down & keep safe.
We ended up with just 1/2 inch and no snow.
DeleteBaking is good for anything that ails you.......
Glenda,
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing better than using Yak Trax when walking in this type of weather. Be safe, hunker down, and keep warm.
We have taken too many hard falls not to use them...ice is absolutely the worst even on the grassy spots.
DeleteThat link to my blog doesn't take folks to the recipe, just go to Allrecipes and put "Amish Cookies" in the search box. I can't put the link here, but I'm about ready to post today so I'll put it on there. Hugs, Ilene
ReplyDeleteI put the link there just so folks can visit your blog! Finding the recipe is just an added benefit for them.
DeleteHave a super weekend.
Oh, you are such a dear. Wish we lived closer. I hope you have a super weekend, too.
DeleteGot 8 inches of snow on the ground at this moment. Not too much wind, but it is ok. I think that the weather people are making this a major storm than it is. It's not bad here, and I have seen and have been in much worse, believe me.
ReplyDeleteI am making chili now, I am too tired to bake today, maybe over the weekend. I am making supper for all of us, and then later check on my dad at the care center tonight and talk to him.
Stay safe and warm, and enjoy.
Hugs
8 inches is more snow than we have seen down here in a very long time.
DeleteOur daughter sent pictures of snow in her front yard in north KC. It looked like at least 18 inches! She said it was the first time she can remember they called all their equipment off the neighborhood street because they needed them for the main streets. I guess even KC wasn't expecting this much.
I love my YakTrax!! Although we still have about 6 inches from the blizzard, we are getting another 6-12 this weekend!....:)JP
ReplyDeleteJP, you moved up north to snow country! I hope you are still loving it.
DeleteStay safe, Glenda. Ice is the worst of all. Q is going to run into us tomorrow morning and we're going to see everything: rain, ice, sleet and snow. Sure am glad I don't have to go anywhere at all.
ReplyDeleteBe sure and blog about what weather you are getting now.
DeleteWe are finished and are just waiting for the warm temperatures Sunday which should take care of our stuff.
To think that I whined about the temperature dipping below freezing for a couple of hours on three occasions. I would die, just die in your climate. Well, maybe I would make the best of it but i wouldn't like it much.
ReplyDeleteLove the lettuce in the flower bed. I should try that. My lettuces in a container are not very happy.
I bet you could adapt! Our daughter who was born and raised here moved to KC after college and she still hates the more northern weather. She got a lot of snow out of this system. She said she would move south in a heartbeat if her company had a southern location.
DeleteI have lettuce growing in a flat now and it looks pretty sorry too. As soon as I can I am moving it into that same location in the picture. It is right outside the back door which makes it very handy.
Filling the house with delicious baking smells, sure makes it seem less dreary outside.
ReplyDeleteI like having the cookie jar filled too! Cooking always lifts my spirits. I want to try challah today. I have never made that bread.
